Hello, and welcome to my digital sandbox! My name's Greg Chetcuti, and I've been nerding out on computers since I was about 10 years old.
I simply love playing around with all things technology. Whether it's setting up a new piece of hardware or software in my Homelab, learning new programming languages (and occasionally swearing at them), falling asleep in bed while reading about Linux command-line utilities, or running a live web server from my patio using a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and a battery pack (cut me some slack, it was a pandemic project), if it's technology-related, odds are that I'm going to want to get my hands on it.
Due to this love of technology, I've always had some sort of personal website to play around with, dating back to the '90s. A few years ago I started learning Ansible and Docker, which lead to a complete overhaul of how I manage and deploy my servers and websites. Along the way, I had many yaks to shave, but I'm finally at a point where I'm ready to start getting some content on the site again.
Now before you ask, no, this is not going to be a blog, at least not in the traditional sense. You won't find me posting about my daily life, like what I ate for breakfast, or the existential dread of turning another year older. This space is dedicated to technology -- pure, unadulterated, geeky technology. I'm constantly playing around with new stuff, and I've thought about documenting some of it for future reference, so what better way to document it than publicly, where others may be able to get some use out of it as well. How-to articles, tips and tricks, reviews, that sort of thing. As for tech industry news, I'll probably be keeping the posting to a minimum, unless it's something that significantly impacts the industry.
Although I had temporarily migrated my shell of a site to Ghost while I was busy shaving yaks, earlier this year something compelled me to investigate static site generators more in-depth, and I'm sure glad it did. My research eventually lead me to Eleventy, and after flipping through the documentation a bit, and doing some searches to see what people loved about the software, I was hooked, and I knew I had to redo my site using it. I'll definitely be posting some articles about Eleventy in the future.
Speaking of the website, let's talk about the design for a moment. The theme was inspired by the Signature Plastics "1976" SA keycap set color palette. I've loved this colour palette since the day I saw it, and while I was working on the new site I thought it might be a fun place to give these colours a try, so here we are. If I'm being completely honest, I'm still not sure if I'm sold on the colour palette for a website. I generally prefer minimal colours, so this is a bit of a change for me, but it also seems like a good place to test drive some ideas that I wouldn't normally try. After all, I did call this my digital sandbox just moments ago.
Anyways, that's pretty much it, I just wanted to give a brief rundown about what the site's going to be all about. If you have any feedback, or have anything you want me to write about, feel free to reach out directly, or leave a comment below.
Best Regards,
